Home Economics Junior Cycle Study Notes
Ready to cut those apron strings and assert your independence? Anxious to move out of home and get your own place when you leave school? Confident that you can look after yourself, then? Well, you’re going to need some knowledge in this area and that includes you too, girls!
The Home Economics syllabus for Junior Cert has been designed to prepare students in the important skills of living as individuals and as members of a family in a diverse, global society. The course divides into five main areas, with food studies and culinary skills high up on the menu. You can learn the rights and wrongs of consumer issues, find out more about social & health matters, and improve your skills as a resource manager. There is a section on textile studies and optional areas covering childcare, design and craftwork. There is a mixture of theory and practice which helps to prepare you for the world of living and provides a good basis for future roles in life.
Studying this subject won’t suddenly turn you into an ideal housemate, a celebrity chef, or a domestic goddess but it will help to make life more manageable. And that always gets good reviews!
